Breaking Boundaries: HKDI Unveils Hong Kong’s Largest Virtual Production Studio

Hong Kong Design Institute opens a cutting-edge virtual production studio at Shaw Studios, equipped with state-of-the-art technology to elevate Hong Kong’s film industry.

The new studio features top-of-the-line tools like a Samsung microLED display, Disguise technology, and ARRI solutions, setting a new standard for virtual production in Hong Kong.

Covering 9,000 square feet, the studio is the city’s biggest in the emerging virtual production field, offering students and professionals access to control rooms, workspaces, and dressing rooms.

HKDI students can now blend virtual and real scenes, fostering creativity and offering practical experience in virtual production, with support from industry equipment and collaboration opportunities.

Dr. Lay-lian Ong, principal of HKDI, emphasizes the importance of providing students with hands-on learning experiences that align with industry standards, preparing them for successful careers in film production.

HKDI has also garnered recognition as the sole institution in Hong Kong to receive training accreditation from prestigious film production brands like Disguise, ARRI, and Dolby simultaneously.
