Farewell to Joe Camp, creator of ‘Benji’ films. Mr. Camp passed away at 84. He had a limited Hollywood background but raised funds for the first ‘Benji’ movie. The iconic mutt, Higgins, starred in the film.
Camp didn’t find distribution initially, so he started his own company. ‘Benji’ grossed nearly $40 million. Following the success, he made sequels, a TV series, and a Christmas special. Camp was also an animal lover, author, and philanthropist.
Joe Camp leaves behind his wife, Kathleen, sons Joe and Brandon, and step-children David, Dylan, and Allegra. He will be remembered for his contributions to cinema, his love for animals, and his charitable endeavors.
