Investing in Thailand: Nation Group Newspaper Publisher Expands into Film Industry

The Thailand-based Nation Group is venturing into the film industry with a romantic comedy titled “Nak Ruk Mak Makk Mak.” This film draws inspiration from the Thai ghost tale “Mae Nak Phra Khanong.”

Thai film sector is witnessing a surge in interest from investors due to recent successes and government efforts to boost national soft power and creative industries. Plans are underway for a promotional and funding agency encompassing various cultural aspects like film, music, food, and Muay Thai boxing.

Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi recently hosted a grand Thai Night event at FilMart. Additionally, the Department of International Trade and Promotion inked a memorandum of understanding with Hong Kong’s Trade Development Council.

“Nak Ruk Mak Makk Mak” is a collaborative effort among Nation Group (Thailand), Black Dragon Entertainment, Transformation Film, and Bangfire Film Entertainment. The movie, helmed by comedian Nong Chachacha, marks his directorial debut.

Starring in the film are Mum Jokmok, Krist-Perawat Sangpotirat, Yada Narilya Gulmongkolpech, Nui Chernyim, and Rusameekae Fahkueanlonalong. The movie revisits the timeless Thai ghost story of Mae Nak, set during King Rama III’s era, but with a contemporary twist.

Nation Group’s chairman Shine Bunnag mentioned the company’s long-standing interest in film production. This venture follows their sponsorship of the World Film Festival in Bangkok. Stay tuned for the release of their upcoming films!
