Cord Jefferson will be honored with the Writer’s Guild of America West’s prestigious Paul Selvin Award for his screenplay “American Fiction.” The award ceremony will take place on April 14 at the Hollywood Palladium.
Jefferson adapted the script from the book “Erasure” by Percival Everett and also directed the film. He recently won an Academy Award for best adapted screenplay.
“American Fiction,” starring Jeffrey Wright, tells the story of a Black author who writes a novel filled with stereotypes that unexpectedly becomes a hit. The film was critically acclaimed and received multiple Oscar nominations.
Jefferson’s impressive resume includes writing for shows like “Survivor’s Remorse,” “The Good Place,” “Master of None,” and “Watchmen.”
Past recipients of the Paul Selvin Award include Rebecca Lenkiewicz, Barry Jenkins, and the Lucas brothers.
