Dune 2 Receives High Praise from Steven Spielberg: A Masterpiece of Science-Fiction

Steven Spielberg praised “Dune: Part Two” as a brilliant science-fiction film, lauding director Denis Villeneuve. Spielberg recognized Villeneuve as a world-building filmmaker, likening him to iconic directors such as George Lucas and Christopher Nolan.

Villeneuve was humbled by Spielberg’s compliments, particularly for the scene where Paul rides a sandworm. Spielberg marveled at how the desert landscape in the film was imbued with a yearning for water, praising the visual representation of the sandworms as sea serpents.

The intricate sandworm riding scene took 44 days to shoot, with a massive set piece constructed for the sequence. Cinematographer Greig Fraser acknowledged the challenge of bringing Paul’s sandworm ride to life while ensuring the audience’s immersion in the story.

“Dune: Part Two” has been a critical and commercial success, grossing nearly $240 million domestically and over $570 million worldwide. The film continues to captivate audiences and is currently showing in theaters nationwide.
