Script Supervisors Secure Tentative Deal, IATSE Gains Momentum

IATSE leadership sees positive progress with negotiations, as Local 871 secures an agreement. Seven out of 13 West Coast locals have now reached tentative deals, building momentum.

The Basic Agreement talks between IATSE and the AMPTP are on track to commence on April 29, focusing on significant industry-wide issues. Negotiations aim to prevent a widespread strike as the current contract expires on July 31.

Local-specific discussions have been ongoing, addressing job classifications, safety standards, and wage scales unique to each craft. General issues like pension and wage increases will be addressed in May, followed by negotiations on artificial intelligence.

To maintain unity, negotiations on the Area Standards Agreement will happen after the Basic Agreement talks. If an agreement cannot be reached, IATSE may call for a strike authorization vote. Collaboration with Teamsters Local 399 and other unions is ongoing for a cohesive industry approach.

As negotiations progress, the commitment to meet the July 31 deadline remains firm, signaling that unions do not plan to extend the expiration date. The coordinated efforts aim to uphold the rights and standards of workers in the entertainment industry.
