Jake Gyllenhaal’s Indie Film Crumbled Due to Alleged ‘Erratic’ Behavior on Set

Jake Gyllenhaal’s collaboration with director Thomas Bidegain ended abruptly due to the actor’s alleged erratic behavior on the set of the indie film Suddenly. Bidegain revealed that the $26 million project, which was to star Gyllenhaal and Vanessa Kirby, fell apart due to Gyllenhaal’s unprofessional conduct.

According to the director, Gyllenhaal demanded a complete rewrite of the script, insisted on reworking sets, and displayed bizarre behavior such as stripping down to his underwear and diving into the freezing ocean in front of the crew.

Furthermore, Gyllenhaal allegedly wanted the film to be a love note to nature rather than a romance, and he reportedly clashed with the screenwriter over the script. Eventually, Gyllenhaal departed the project.

Although Gyllenhaal was the main source of contention, Kirby also displayed problems on the set and suggested changes to the script. Eventually, the project was rewritten in French and filmed with French actors, resulting in the movie Soudain Seuls.

There is no clear explanation for Gyllenhaal’s alleged behavior, but this incident sheds light on the challenges that can arise during film production. Despite the setback, Gyllenhaal has continued to work on other projects and hasn’t faced a shortage of opportunities in the industry.
