First Run Features Acquires IDFA-Winning Documentary ‘Much Ado About Dying’ for U.S. Release

First Run Features has acquired Scott Chamber’s documentary, “Much Ado About Dying,” winner of the best directing award at IDFA. The film, a touching portrayal of caring for the elderly, will have its U.S. festival premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, followed by a national release.

The documentary follows Chambers as he cares for his dying uncle, a retired gay actor who is determined to perform “King Lear” before it’s too late. The production has been lauded for its poignant and humorous approach to a sensitive topic.

Soilsiú Films’ David Rane expressed delight in working with First Run Features, acknowledging the challenge of releasing arthouse documentaries in U.S. cinemas. First Run, with its esteemed history in indie distribution, is honored to present “Much Ado About Dying” to American audiences. The film is a valuable addition to Soilsiú Films’ growing collection of world-class documentaries.

The acquisition marks another success for Soilsiú Films, following the U.S. triumph of “Young Plato.” First Run Features sees “Much Ado About Dying” as a touching and humorous portrayal of aging and caregiving, and they are eager to share this moving story with U.S. audiences.
