Qatar’s Katara Studios is fostering filmmaking and content production in the gas-rich Gulf nation. CEO Ahmed Al Baker’s vision includes creating a space for filmmakers, integrating with events like the Qatar World Cup and AFC Asian Cup soccer tournament.
The recent AFC Asian Cup ceremony featured the launch of Katara Studios’ “The Lost Chapter of Keileh and Demneh,” a 20-minute musical spectacle based on ancient fables. The studio plans spinoffs in film, TV, and live theatrical experiences, aiming to create a universe for diverse storytelling.
On the moviemaking front, Katara Studios is co-producing “All Before You,” a historical drama by Oscar-nominated director Annemarie Jacir. The film was affected by the Israel-Hamas conflict but is still eagerly anticipated. Another project in the pipeline is the docuseries “Chasing Dreams,” following Syrian boys from a refugee camp pursuing soccer scholarships in Brazil.
