Fear and Intrigue Unite as Danielle Deadwyler Takes Lead in Blumhouse’s ‘The Woman in the Yard’

“Till” star Danielle Deadwyler and “Black Adam” director Jaume Collet-Serra are teaming up for “The Woman in the Yard,” a thriller from Blumhouse and Universal Pictures.

Sam Stefanak wrote the screenplay for “The Woman in the Yard,” though the film’s logline hasn’t been disclosed. It’s scheduled to be released in theaters on Jan. 10, 2025.

Blumhouse founder Jason Blum said he’s been trying to find the right project to work on with Collet-Serra for “over a decade.”

“’The Woman in the Yard’ is the perfect match, a film that’s ambitious in scope but modest in budget that combines Jaume’s vision with the incomparable Danielle Deadwyler,” Blum said in a statement.

In addition to starring, Deadwyler is executive producing “The Woman in the Yard” with Collet-Serra, Gabrielle Ebron, Scott Greenberg and James Mora. Jason Blum and Stephanie Allain will serve as producers. Haley Pigman and Jungyoon Kim will oversee the film for Blumhouse.

“The Woman in the Yard” reunites Collet-Serra and Deadwyler, who collaborated in the upcoming Netflix film “Carry On.”

Deadwyler is best known for 2022’s biopic “Till,” in which she portrayed the mother of Emmett Till, and the Western “The Harder They Fall.” Up next, she’s starring in A24’s “I Saw the TV Glow” as well as Netflix’s adaptation of “The Piano Lesson,” opposite John David Washington and Samuel L. Jackson.

Collet-Serra’s film credits include DC’s “Black Adam,” featuring Dwayne Johnson, and Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” with Johnson and Emily Blunt. He also directed the Liam Neeson-led thriller “Unknown” and the horror films “Orphan” and “House of Wax.”

Deadwyler is represented by Paradigm Talent Agency, Play Management, Shelter PR and Ziffren Brittenham. Collet-Serra is represented by LBI Entertainment and Yorn, Levine, Barnes, Krintzman, Rubenstein, Kohner, Endlich, Goodell & Gellman. Stefanak is represented by Paradigm Talent Agency and Allard Cantor and Jarrod Murray at Epicenter and Adam Cooper at Jackoway.
