Renowned Filmmaker Teresa Cavina Takes the Helm as Artistic Director of Malta’s Mediterrane Film Festival

Renowned Italian filmmaker Teresa Cavina has been appointed as the new artistic director of Malta’s Mediterrane Film Festival. Tapping into her over two-decades of experience, Cavina is setting up the festival’s selection with a focus on films from the Mediterranean, global cinema, sustainability and the environment, and experimental VR projects.

Last year’s pilot edition showcased 24 films, with over 300 industry professionals in attendance, including notable talents Eric Bana and Annabelle Wallis. Cavina expressed her excitement about leading a festival dedicated to the Mediterranean and beyond, aiming for it to be a platform for global cultural exchange and launching careers in filmmaking.

Malta’s Film Commissioner Johann Grech highlighted the country’s historical role as a bridge between the nations of the Mediterranean as well as between Europe and Africa, underlining the significance of hosting a festival that brings together diverse cinematic voices.
