‘Mean Girls’ Smashes $100 Million Mark at Worldwide Box Office

The musical adaptation of the 2004 classic, “Mean Girls,” has stormed the global box office, surpassing $100 million in just six weeks since its release. Having raked in $71.2 million in North America and $30 million from 31 international territories, the film cost just $36 million.
The movie held the No. 1 spot domestically for three consecutive weeks and boasted top openings in the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico. It is set to open in Singapore and India later this month.

Angourie Rice plays Cady Heron, navigating high school drama, accompanied by a talented cast. Paramount shared exit poll data showing 75% of audiences knew it was a musical beforehand, and only 16% were disappointed by this genre. Despite being a musical, the promotional materials downplayed the song-and-dance element, aiming to attract a broader audience.
Marc Weinstock, the President of Global Marketing and Distribution at Paramount, explained that this approach was taken to avoid pigeonholing the film. By not explicitly labeling it as a musical, the film could appeal to a wider audience.
