Tom Cruise in Talks to Lead Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Blockbuster at Warner Bros. and Legendary

Tom Cruise is in negotiations to star in a new film from Alejandro González Iñárritu for Warner Bros. and Legendary. The untitled project will be Iñárritu’s first English-language film since “The Revenant.” Cruise recently signed a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery and will produce theatrical films with the studio.

Cruise’s last film with the studio was “Edge of Tomorrow” a decade ago. He’s recently appeared in “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” and “Top Gun: Maverick.” Upcoming films include the eighth “Mission: Impossible” film for Paramount, and an upcoming Universal action movie that will feature him in a spacewalk outside the International Space Station.

Iñárritu won back-to-back Academy Awards for “Birdman” in 2015 and “The Revenant” in 2016. He also worked on a virtual-reality short called “Flesh and Sand” and the film “Bardo,” which earned an Oscar nomination for best cinematography.

Both Cruise and Iñárritu are represented by CAA. Deadline was first to report the news.
