Aquaman Returns: The Lost Kingdom Sets Release Date for Max Streaming

The Lost Kingdom is now inside of your home, as “Aquaman 2” swims to streaming on Feb. 27.

The Jason Momoa-led superhero sequel will be available to watch on Max just two months after it debuted in theaters over the Christmas holiday.

The film follows Momoa’s oceanic stud as he once again goes up against Black Manta, who threatens to unleash an evil and ancient force using the Black Trident.

Aquaman teams up with his half-brother Orm, the former king of Atlantis, to put aside their differences and save their underwater world from permanent destruction.

“Aquaman 2” floundered at the box office, collecting only $123 million domestically and $433 million worldwide.

Variety chief film critic Owen Gleiberman wrote in his review of the “Aquaman” sequel, “The movie, with all that combat, is staged on an impressively grand scale by the returning director, James Wan, but at the same time there’s something glumly standard about it.”

Gleiberman continued, “This has already registered as the year when the MCU stumbled and maybe began its slow fall from cultural dominance. But, of course, it’s not just Marvel that people are weary of. It’s the numbing repetition of comic-book movies in general.

“Aquaman 2” is directed by James Wan, who produced alongside Peter Safran and Rob Cowan. Executive producers include Galen Vaisman and Walter Hamada, and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick wrote the screenplay.
