Argylle Tops Box Office Charts Despite Flopping

Despite topping the box office, Argylle is considered a flop due to low earnings and a “C+” CinemaScore.

The $18 million opening is a fraction of its $200 million budget, leaving it $165 million in the red. The absence of Henry Cavill, despite being showcased in the trailer, may have disappointed audiences.

Director Matthew Vaughn’s hopes for an Argylle franchise seem unlikely, given its poor performance. The weekend box office as a whole was lackluster, with only $59.7 million domestically, the second-worst of 2024.

Other films in the top spots include The Chosen Season 4, The Beekeeper, Wonka, and Migration. Notable performances also include American Fiction, Poor Things, and How to Have Sex opening in limited release.
