The British Academy of Film and Television Arts will honor the late Matthew Perry at its upcoming TV awards following his omission from the film awards’ In Memoriam segment.
Perry, known for his role as Chandler Bing on “Friends,” also had a successful film career in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The BAFTA In Memoriam segment at the film awards paid tribute to several individuals, including Tina Turner.
BAFTA confirmed that Perry will be remembered at the Television Awards in May.
Perry died on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54. His cause of death was reported as “the acute effects of ketamine.”
In January, Perry was honored at the 2023 Emmys In Memoriam segment.
Similar controversies have arisen with BAFTA’s In Memoriam segment in the past.
BAFTA also confirmed that director Roy Battersby would also be honored during the TV awards.
