British cinema flourished at this year’s Oscars, with key wins in non-acting categories. The U.K. dominated the craft categories with “Poor Things” winning for costume design, makeup, and hairstyling, and production design.
“The Zone of Interest” surprised many by winning best sound and best international feature, a first for a U.K. film. The climax of the night was Christopher Nolan winning best director for “Oppenheimer” and best picture with his wife, Emma Thomas.
While British actors didn’t win, the event was not short of British talent. Cillian Murphy’s best actor acceptance speech proudly reflected his Irish heritage, amidst some confusion. Ryan Gosling’s performance featured British co-stars, adding to the British presence at the event.
