Chinese Box Office Triumph: ‘Article 20’ Dominates, ‘Argylle’ Falters
The four strongest Chinese titles during Lunar New Year continued to lead global and mainland China’s box office charts.
“Article 20” took the top spot globally, followed by “Pegasus 2,” “YOLO,” and “Boonie Bears: Time Twist.”
In mainland China, these films continue to dominate, with their numbers comparable to 2023’s totals.
“Article 20” led the pack, earning $40.1 million over the weekend, surpassing other popular titles.
“Pegasus 2” and “YOLO” maintained strong showings, while “Boonie Bears” performed well as the latest installment in the franchise.
The top four films overshadowed new releases like “Argylle,” which struggled at the Chinese box office.
The overall box office in China for the year-to-date is close to 2023’s numbers, showing resilience in the market.
The success of these Chinese films led to some other Lunar New Year releases being pulled early to re-release in better conditions.
