Dynamic Duo: Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman are set to star in “The Roses,” a reimagining of the 1989 classic “The War of the Roses.” Directed by Jay Roach and written by Tony McNamara, the film follows the story of a seemingly perfect couple whose lives are not what they seem.
Searchlight president Matthew Greenfield praised the project, calling it a “bigger than life, deeply human story.” The film is being produced by Cumberbatch’s SunnyMarch banner and Colman’s South of the River banner, with a talented team bringing it to life.
Jonathan R. Adler and Michael Adler are executive producing the project, which marks the first under a two-year deal between Adler Entertainment Trust and Searchlight Pictures. The original adaptation of the novel was released in 1989 to critical acclaim, winning awards and nominations.
Cumberbatch, Colman, and Roach are represented by various agencies. The deal was negotiated by Paul Hoffman for Searchlight Pictures and Jeff Silberman for Adler Entertainment Trust. Searchlight’s production team is overseeing the project.
