European IP Spotlight: Cannes Market Launches Remakes Program for Fast-Track Film Adaptations

The Cannes Marché du Film introduces a new Cannes Remakes program with France’s National Film Board. The program aims to fast-track film adaptations of European IPs.

Scheduled for May 20, the half-day event on the CNC Beach will feature IPs from France, Spain, and Italy available for adaptations. The program includes pitching sessions, one-to-one meetings, and a networking cocktail event.

The demand for film adaptations has surged in recent years, especially with global streaming services driving the market. Remakes have proven to be a lucrative and low-risk option in the industry.

Guillaume Esmiol, the executive director of Marché du Film, is enthusiastic about supporting the evolving film industry through Cannes Remakes. He highlights the appeal of adaptations across multiple languages for global audiences.

Jérémie Kessler from CNC emphasizes the growing international trend towards IP adaptations, promoting European IPs while defending cultural heritage.

Supported by Creative Europe MEDIA, Cannes Remakes also receives backing from various organizations including the Institute of Cinematography & Audiovisual Arts and Italy’s Cinecittà.

The Cannes Marché du Film runs from May 14 to May 22, offering a platform for industry professionals to engage with potential business opportunities for film adaptations.
