Film Blacula (1972)

Film Blacula, released in 1972, is the 100th production from American International studios. Starring William Marshall as the African prince turned vampire, it tells the story of Blacula rising in 1970s Los Angeles. Tina becomes a target, believed to be his lost love reincarnated.

Thalmus Rasulala plays the vampire hunter, struggling to convince authorities of the danger. Interestingly, William Marshall later played “The King of Cartoons” on TV’s Pee-wee’s Playhouse. A sequel, Scream, Blacula, Scream!, followed the success of the original movie.

Blacula is classified as PG and combines genres such as horror, drama, fantasy, and thriller. The film was a unique addition to the vampire genre, infusing it with 1970s culture and settings. Its legacy continues to be remembered for its representation and contribution to the horror genre back in the 70s.
