Film Factory to Launch ‘I’m Nevenka’ at Berlin Film Festival: A Powerful Story of Spain’s First High-Profile Sexual Harassment Case

Film Factory is set to launch ‘I’m Nevenka’ at the Berlin Film Festival. The film tells the impactful story of Spain’s first high-profile case of sexual harassment, with actress Mireia Oriol taking the lead role. The movie reunites many of the team members who worked on Icíar Bollaín’s “Maixabel,” including Urko Olazaba. The distributor for Spain will be Disney, with a planned release in the fourth quarter of 2024. The acquisition of the film highlights Film Factory’s dedication to promoting stories that spark essential conversations about societal matters.

“I’m Nevenka” is based on the true story of Nevenka Fernández, who bravely faced societal backlash after accusing her boss of sexual harassment at the age of 23. The case, which took place in 2000, held significant importance in Spain’s social and cultural context, preceding the global #MeToo movement by nearly two decades.

Director Bollaín commented on Fernández’s bravery, highlighting her fight for justice and survival. The film sheds light on the challenges faced by victims of harassment, as well as the portrayal of the media’s response to such cases. Bollaín returns to the director’s chair after the success of “Maixabel,” collaborating once again with co-writer Isa Campo.

Production of “I’m Nevenka” commenced on January 29, with Kowalski Films and Feelgood Media teaming up as producers. The film is not only a portrayal of a historical event but also aims to address enduring issues of power dynamics, gender discrimination, and the courage needed to confront such challenges.

Vicente Canales, CEO of Film Factory Entertainment, expressed excitement about joining another project by Icíar Bollaín, emphasizing the film’s relevance in today’s society. The company is confident in the success of “I’m Nevenka,” citing Bollaín’s influence in the Spanish film industry. The film is anticipated to continue the success of “Maixabel” by shining a light on a subject that remains pertinent today.
