Shrek, released in 2001, is a fully computer-animated fantasy film with an ensemble cast including Mike Myers (Shrek), Cameron Diaz (Princess Fiona), and Eddie Murphy (Donkey).
The story revolves around Shrek, a green ogre who enjoys solitude until fairy tale characters seek refuge in his swamp due to being shunned by the evil Lord Farquaad.
Shrek agrees to rescue Princess Fiona, intended to be Farquaad’s bride, in exchange for the fairy tale characters leaving his swamp. Along the journey, Shrek is accompanied by the loquacious Donkey.
The film, inspired by a children’s book by William Steig, features additional voice-work by actors Vincent Cassel, Cody Cameron, and Kathleen Freeman.
