Hamaguchi Ryusuke’s Immersive ‘Gift’ Unveiled in a Exclusive Live Performance in Hong Kong

Hamaguchi Ryusuke presents his immersive ‘Gift’ at a live performance during the Hong Kong International Film Festival. Following his success with ‘Drive My Car,’ ‘Gift’ was initially a silent film project accompanying Ishibashi Eiko’s music.
Hamaguchi’s ‘Evil Does Not Exist,’ a companion to ‘Gift,’ won the Grand Jury Prize at Venice Film Festival. Both films focus on eco-political themes and feature a man and his daughter facing disruption due to a glamping site’s construction. The controlled filmmaking of ‘Evil’ sparked discussions with its enigmatic ending.
‘Gift’ provides a different perspective on the same scenario and footage used in ‘Evil Does Not Exist.’ The live performance intensifies the emotional connection, exploring the clash between man and nature, and good and evil. The exclusive ‘Gift’ performance with live music by Ishibashi Eiko is set for March 30 at Hong Kong City Hall during the festival.
The Hong Kong International Film Festival will run from March 28 to April 8. Stay tuned for the full program announcement.
