Indian Cinema Icon Waheeda Rehman Donates Personal Film Memorabilia to Film Heritage Foundation

Indian cinema icon Waheeda Rehman has donated personal film memorabilia to the Film Heritage Foundation, including items like the saree she wore to the premiere of “C.I.D.” in 1956. The donation was made possible by her children, Sohail Rekhi and Kashvi Rekhi.

Rehman expressed the importance of preserving these memories for future generations to understand the history of Indian cinema. FHF director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur was deeply moved by her gesture and emphasized the significance of keeping these items safe for posterity.

In another preservation effort, 1,000 radio plays have been returned to the BBC Archives by a group of radio enthusiasts. BBC Radio will broadcast these recordings, including classics like “Macbeth” and adaptations of literary works by renowned authors. The season will also feature plays by Harold Pinter and Dennis Potter, not heard on BBC Radio since the 1980s.
