Joburg Film Festival Takes a Trip Back in Time with ‘London Recruits’: A Riveting Apartheid-Era Documentary

The Joburg Film Festival is set to open with Gordon Main’s documentary ‘London Recruits,’ delving into the apartheid era in South Africa. The film follows a covert mission to inspire liberation while up against the apartheid regime’s oppression.

The festival will feature over 60 films from 30+ countries, including award-winning works like “Perfect Days” and “Mami Wata.” There will also be the JBX Content Market, connecting African content producers with international buyers.

The festival has revealed its esteemed jury, comprising Kenyan filmmaker Tosh Gitonga, South African actors Nthati Moshesh and Jerry Mofokeng wa Makthetha, industry veteran Pape Boye, and festival manager Andrea Voges.

Competing films at the Joburg Film Festival include “Hajjan,” “Mami Wata,” “All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt,” and “London Recruits” in various categories. The festival promises a diverse and captivating array of works that will offer unique perspectives and powerful storytelling.
