Marvel Cuts 15 Jobs in Latest Restructuring Move

Marvel made headlines as it cut 15 jobs in a recent restructuring move. The layoffs affected staff at Marvel Studios in Burbank and Marvel Entertainment in New York, mainly lower-level production and development employees.

The decision to reduce staff was influenced by a decrease in film and TV titles, prompting a reassessment following challenges faced in the 2023 releases. The move also aimed to streamline positions due to Disney’s absorption of Marvel Entertainment into other company divisions.

The restructuring also led to the departure of top executives, including Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter, after Disney’s decision to integrate Marvel Entertainment. Disney CEO Bob Iger announced plans to recalibrate the studio’s production slate in response to industry challenges.

The focus now is on elevating the quality of Marvel’s cinematic offerings through strategic initiatives. This includes reducing output, killing off projects deemed unviable, and introducing new projects with greater potential. Despite the changes, Marvel Studios is only releasing one film this year, “Deadpool & Wolverine.”

The company affirms that there are no immediate plans for further impacts from the restructuring.
