Missed Opportunity: Alan Ritchson’s Lost Chance at Thor Due to Underestimating Audition’s Importance
Before starring as “Reacher,” Alan Ritchson auditioned for Marvel’s Thor, assuming his looks would secure him the lead. “They’ll throw me the part if I look like the guy; nobody really cares about acting,” Ritchson thought.
Despite his appearance, the casting team felt he lacked the craft needed for the role, leading them to choose Chris Hemsworth instead. At that point, Ritchson had viewed comedy as his future path post-“Blue Mountain State.” Yet, offers weren’t pouring in.
After his Thor setback, Ritchson prioritized acting by taking classes and securing roles on shows like “Black Mirror” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” This led to his recurring role as Hank Hall/Hawk in “Titans,” ultimately paving the way for his success in “Reacher.”
Following “Reacher’s” debut, Ritchson’s career skyrocketed, garnering him numerous offers and solidifying his path in the industry.
