Reviving Extinct Wonders: ‘My Octopus Teacher’ Filmmaker Explores the Restoration of Species like the Dodo Bird in Upcoming Documentary

Reviving extinct wonders: ‘My Octopus Teacher’ filmmaker explores the restoration of species like the dodo bird in upcoming documentary.

Colossal Biosciences will be the subject. The docuseries will follow the Dallas-based company as it uses gene editing technology to bring back extinct species.

The company’s intention is to rewild the extinct animals and bring them back to their natural habitats. Teton Ridge is financing the first phase of the docu’s production.

James Reed, the Academy Award winner for “My Octopus Teacher,” is currently in production. He will have behind the scenes access to Colossal’s work on ancient DNA and genetic engineering.

Colossal Biosciences launched in 2021 when it received $15 million in initial funding. Earlier this month, the company hired Emily Castel as its first CMO.

James Reed will document the lives of animals that have not roamed the earth in thousands of years. Transparency is core to Colossal’s mission and goals. The thin line between science and science fiction has been erased.
