Sensational Films Shine at Malaga Festival: Saturn Return, Radical, Little Loves steal the spotlight

MALAGA — Isaki Lacuesta’s “Saturn Return” (“Second Prize”), always a frontrunner, topped this week’s Malaga Festival winning its best picture, director, and editing awards.

The triple plaudit delivers further recognition for a feature which is formally radical and entertaining. Turning on Spanish indie rock group Los Planetas storied attempts to make their iconic album, it has been hailed as a masterpiece.

Playing at Sundance, Christopher Zalla’s “Radical” walked off with Malaga’s Golden Biznaga for best Ibero-American picture. Celia Rico’s “Little Loves” took the Special Jury Award this year.

Produced by Arcadia Motion Pictures, “Little Loves” sees Rico return to a daughter-mother relationship. This time round, the sudden dependence of a redoubtable mother adds to the emotional depth of the film.

Alex Montoya’s stylish family drama “La Casa” won screenplay, score, and the festival’s Audience Award, showcasing his talent after his success with “Lucas.”
