**Shining a Light: Hong Kong Film Awards Nominations Expose Care Home Scandal in ‘In Broad Daylight’**

The Hong Kong Film Awards nominations have brought to light a breakthrough film about a care home scandal. “In Broad Daylight,” directed by Lawrence Kan, has received 16 nominations. The movie, a comedy-drama, portrays real events at a care home for the elderly and has been highly praised for its cinematography, editing, sound design, and original song.

The movie depicts an investigative journalist who goes undercover to uncover abuse and misconduct at a care home. Despite receiving acclaim at various film festivals, it had previously been unrecognized at the Golden Horse Film Awards.

Among the contenders for the best film category are Nick Cheung’s “Time Still Turns the Pages,” Soi Cheang’s “Mad Fate,” Felix Chong’s “The Goldfinger” and “A Guilty Conscience,” directed by Jack Ng. All five pictures have accrued nominations for best director, and two of them are produced by Derek Yee, chairman of the HKFA.

The nominations also include the best Asian Chinese film category, with films such as “The Pig, the Snake and the Pigeon,” “No More Bets,” “Abang Adik,” “Full River Red,” and “Marry My Dead Body.”

The event organizers expressed their excitement about the significant increase in the number of eligible films for the 42nd Hong Kong Film Awards. The diversity of genres and themes in these films has attracted a wider audience, encouraging them to return to cinemas.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on April 14 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Kowloon. The event will include a red carpet prelude at the center’s Harbourfront Staircase.
