Sony Pictures Classics to Release Pedro Almodovar’s ‘The Room Next Door’ with Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton

Sony Pictures Classics will release Pedro Almodovar’s ‘The Room Next Door’ starring Julianne Moore, Tilda Swinton, and John Turturro. Almodovar’s first English-language feature starts shooting in March in New York and Madrid.

Almodovar considered directing 2016’s “Julieta” with Meryl Streep. The upcoming film is produced by Almodóvar’s company, El Deseo, and centers on a mother-daughter relationship and the cruelty of wars.

Sony Pictures Classics will handle the film’s distribution in North America, the Middle East, India, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. This partnership is anticipated since the studio has released most of Almodovar’s films, including “Parallel Mothers,” which earned an Oscar nomination for Penélope Cruz.

The upcoming film seems to defy easy explanation, which aligns with Almodovar’s engaging and complex storytelling style. Both Swinton and Moore have previously starred in Sony Pictures Classics’ films, with Moore winning an Oscar for her role in “Still Alice.”

The collaboration between Almodovar and Sony Pictures Classics has a successful history, including titles such as “Pain and Glory,” “All About My Mother,” and “Volver.” The new project is set to be another exciting addition to their partnership.
